Riska is making a first class job of motherhood and her 11 day old puppies are looking very plump and sturdy. They are able to crawl round the whelping box at a fair rate of knots and their eyes should start to open any day now. I love listening to their contented puppy chirrups, telling me that all is well in their little world.
Today I have had the only puppy job that I dislike, namely clipping their front claws. Their claws are suprisingly long and sharp, so it is essential to clip them to prevent Riska’s udder getting sore. It is a precise and fiddly job, and it would be impossible to hold them still, so I wait until they are asleep and sneak up on them.
They are so lovely.
